Naval Warfare & Sea Control: From Exploration to Modern
The Exploration Age in Civ VII is almost bound to the sea — the new world, colonial cities and overseas resources all need a navy. Control the sea and you control half the map.
1. Ship types
- Exploration: light sails scout and carry settlers.
- Mid: ships of the line give naval firepower.
- Modern: carrier + destroyer is sea dominance.
2. Establishing sea control
Clear enemy ships and blockade their coastal cities. Sea control cuts their coastal supply, crashing their strength.
3. Amphibious landing
- Clear coast defense and garrison with navy first.
- Land troops on undefended coast via transports.
- Build a port after capture to hold the beachhead.
Tip: naval units also use the commander system. Group same-type ships under a commander for passive bonuses and faster snowball.
4. Common mistakes
- Bare landing: transports without escort get sunk.
- Ignoring supply: fleet too far from coast, supply cut.
- One ship type: missing transport or firepower breaks the chain.
